Dan received his undergraduate degree in economics and history from Baylor University (magna cum laude) and his Ph.D. in economics from Rice University. He began his career at J.P.Morgan Chase (Texas Commerce Bank) as a merger and acquisition analyst and speechwriter for senior management. He subsequently went to the corporate planning division of Tenneco, Inc. (unheard of now, but a major energy based conglomerate at the time), followed by four years as assistant to the Chairman of the Board.He served as President of Tenneco Financial Services, predecessor to Capstone Asset Management. At Capstone, he served as Chairman and Chief Investment Officer and Chairman of the firms securities valuation committee.
